AHMEDABAD: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident that involved two other vehicles on Tuesday morning. Ranip police registered an offence against a car driver who is absconding, under the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Ranip police said Varghese John, a resident of Shantivan Apartments in Sabarmati, was crossing Chimanbhai Patel Bridge and was waiting for clear road to take a U-turn towards Sabarmati at 8.10am. At that time, a car coming from the direction RTO Circle hit Varghese’s scooter, propelling it over the divider and on to the other side.
“A staff bus of a private company was passing the point at the exact same moment. As Varghese’s scooter landed on the road, the bus hit it. Varghese suffered severe head and body injuries and died on the spot,” said an investigator.
According to the complaint by Jinish John, the victim’s son, he learned about the accident when a police investigator phoned him. He said Varghese would usually drop off his wife, an employee of a private hospital near Parimal Garden, early in the morning every day. He would return home at around 8am. Varghese John is survived by his wife and two sons.
“We have got the number of the car involved in the incident. The driver has been charged with IPC Section 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving). Further investigation is under way,” said an official.
