BENGALURU: A 19-year-old engineering student died after the bike on which she was riding pillion rammed into a stationary SUV and subsequently she was run over by a goods vehicle. The incident occurred at Jakkur on International Airport Road in Yelahanka traffic police limits on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Bhoomika, a resident of Mandur in Devanahalli. She was studying first-year engineering at a private college in Chikkaballapur. Her friend Manikanta (19), who was riding the bike, sustained injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment. He is said to be out of danger.
Police said that Bhoomika and Manikanta, who stay in the college hostel, were coming to the city on a two-wheeler on Sunday afternoon. Around 1.45 pm, they were passing through Jakkur when Manikanta failed to notice a Scorpio vehicle parked by the roadside and rammed it from the rear. Both fell to their right and a speeding goods vehicle ran over Bhoomika while Manikanta escaped with minor injuries.
